Magnet Materials

If you can't find the magnet you want in its material group it may be in:

Magnet Assemblies

  • Magnet assemblies
  • Magnets constructed from more than one material. Usually a metal housing is required to provide extra protection for the magnet material, or to add features which may be impossible to achieve using the magnet material alone e.g. if the magnet needs a tapped screw fitting.

Flexible Magnets

  • Flexible magnets
  • Strontium ferrite magnet material is bound into a flexible thermo-plastic which is then calendered to make magnetic sheets or extruded into magnetic strips.

Can't find what you are looking for? - Please contact us. We may able to provide the magnet you require from stock, source it for you or provide a custom engineered product.

Neodymium magnets

Neodymium magnets

Neodymium is the highest strength magnet material available. It is very brittle and usually coated or contained in an assembly (see below) because of this and poor corrosion resistance.

  • High power
  • Low maximum temperature 100 degrees C (although alloys can made that operate up to 180 degrees C)
  • Poor corrosion resistance
  • Very brittle

Ferrite Magnets (ceramic)

Ferrite Magnets (ceramic)

Ferrite is the most widely used magnet material. Also know as 'ceramic'.

  • Operate at lower temperatures than cast alnico magnets - up to 250 degrees C maximum.
  • Economical
  • High coercivity - do not lose their magnetic properties easily
  • Hard and brittle

Cast Alnico Magnets

Cast Alnico Magnets

A family of materials based on the same mix of elements (Aluminium, Nickel, Cobalt).

  • High maximum temperature - up to 550 degrees C.
  • Economical
  • Very stable
  • Good corrosion resistance

Most suitable materials for custom products (can be cast in a range of shapes and magnetic properties can be altered)

Magnet Assemblies

Magnet Assemblies

Magnet material contained in a housing. This is done to protect the material, change the properties of the magnet, allow magnets to have fitment such as screw threads or hooks.

Includes pot magnets, which provide more powerful clamping than equivalent round magnets, hook magnets for signage and magnets with threads or holes for easy attachment

Flexible Magnets

Flexible Magnets

Strontium ferrite magnet material is loaded into a thermo-plastic which is then extruded into strips or calendered into sheets.

Self adhesive coatings or coloured vinyls are added to the non-magnetic face as required.
